Not loving the look of this one but it has to be said that while Pixar and DreamWorks Animation have continued to grab the kudos (Pixar), limelight and box office Sony Pictures Animation have quietly been making some of the most interesting (at least non-Pixar) computer-animated movies of recent years.
Monster House was, and remains, one of the few 3D movies that was actually good enough to watch regardless of the 3D, while the following year's Surf's Up was a surprisingly clever kids film, smartly done. Unfortunately for Monster House it came in the over-saturated summer of 2006 when the shine of CG animation was fading and a lot of movies were getting dismissed. It didn't help that Sony decided to release late summer instead of the more obvious Halloween run up. Surf's Up suffered from starring penguin characters 6 months after Happy Feet. Surf's Up wiped the floor with Happy Feet but few bothered to find out.
This one isn't really appealing to me from the trailer (link below and in the trailer bar on the right) but i missed Surf's Up in the cinema because i pre-judged and regretted it so i will watch this one.
